The Consorzio Venezia Nuova consists of a group of Italy's leading construction companies of international importance and local cooperatives and firms with considerable experience of operating in the lagoon.

To carry out its work as State concessionary responsible for studies, experimental activities, projects and works, the Consorzio Venezia Nuova has developed a structure able to plan, organise, manage and control the safeguarding measures during the various phases of implementation, while at the same time acting as the operational interface between the granting administration (the Venice Water Authority) on one hand and those carrying out the work on the other (designers, experts responsible for studies and experiments and companies carrying out the work).  

In supervising and monitoring development of the projects from their definition during the contractual phase with the granting administration, through design to completion, the various services of the Consorzio Venezia Nuova perform the following functions:

• technical and financial planning of the interventions covered by the conventions signed with the Water Authority as part of general planning of the safeguarding measures covered by the General Plan of Interventions;
• preparation of the technical design specifications, studies and experimental activities for approval by the granting administration;
• carrying out the procedures for assigning studies and experimental activities;
• carrying out design work, studies and experimental activities on the basis of the above programme of interventions and the instructions of the granting administration;
• coordination, supervision and technical control of studies, planning, experimental activities and verification and assessment of results;
• presentation of projects for approval by the granting administration;
• obtaining the go-ahead to carry out the work;
• assigning the work to the companies;
• supervision and technical control of work progress;
• financial control of work progress;
• preparation of reports and development of the activities of the Information Service, responsible for collecting and organising all the information on the ecosystem with a view to the future phase of intervention management;
• interfacing with the granting administration and Inspection Commissions for control activities by the Supervisory Authority and its inspectors.

To carry out its work in the past and present, the Consorzio Venezia Nuova collaborates with consultants from leading scientific laboratories and the most prestigious Italian and foreign universities.  It also runs the Information Service, Italy's most advanced centre for information technology applied to land management.
